BBQ COMPETITORS
The Competitors will compete in four categories: Beef Brisket, Chicken, Pork Ribs & Pulled Pork.
The WV Downtown BBQ Throwdown is a KCBS Sanctioned competition. Bring your best BBQ skills and compete in backyard and pro pitmaster cooking categories and win almost $8000 in cash and prizes. All competitors must follow the KCBS Rules and Regulations, click here for a current copy.
KCBS Pro Pitmasters
In addition to accumulating points for KCBS end of year awards, participating KCBS BBQ Pro Teams compete to win cash prizes from our sponsors. The highest number of points accumulated in the KCBS contest are calculated and a Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion, and first through fifth place in each meat type will receive awards and cash prizes. The winner of this contest will be invited to go to the American Royal and will be entered in the Jack Daniels contest lotto. Teams will be judged by KCBS certified judges in the following categories, brisket, ribs, pork, and chicken.
Grand Champion: $ 2000
Reserve Grand Champion: $ 1000
Pro Pitmaster Category Prizes: (Brisket, Ribs, Pork, and Chicken) (Winners will receive a certificate and cash!)
First Place $200
Second Place: $150
Third Place: $100
Fourth Place: $75
Fifth Place: $50
Not a Pro Pitmaster yet? Add some sizzle and spice to your backyard BBQ skills by trying your hand at our “Backyard” Competition. Overall backyard prizes will be based on the chicken and ribs category. All Categories will receive prizes and certificates!

Best Dressed BBQ Rig!
This is a co-branded competition and all competitors, regardless of category, participate in the same class. Each team will should bring their best décor! Event attendees will vote on winners for being "fancy like that" and strutting their BBQ best! The winning team will win a $250 prize!
BBQ Competition Entry Fees:
The early bird gets a discount registration fee!
Early Bird Pro Pitmaster Category: $200 (After April 1 - $225)
Early Backyard Category: $100 (After April 1 - $125)
All categories are subject to KCBS Pro and Backyard Rules. The event will be held rain or shine. Refunds will not be offered after April 1st.
One 20 amp electric plug will be provided in the KCBS pro category to each PRO cook site. Additional amperage are available for a $75 fee for all teams (pro and backyard).

Load-in time starts Friday 9am to 4pm. It is recommended that you attend the cooks meeting on Friday night. The competitors will be notified of the cooks meeting time.

No extension cords provided.

Competitors may also choose to be a Food Vendor ($350) at the event. For-profit vendors are limited to 6 and are awarded on a first-come first-served basis. Must have Health Dept. Permit.

Quiet Generators Are Allowed - but MUST follow KCBS rules. (Quiet time 10pm)

The application fee is non-refundable. Cancellation after April 1st, or being a no-show at the event will result in 100% forfeiture of fee. If cancellation is received before April 1st, a $50 credit can be applied to the next year’s fee only.

PRO Competitors must compete in all four meat categories; Beef Brisket, Chicken, Pork Ribs, and Pork.

Your team will receive a 30′ x 15′ space and must be self-contained within that space
BBQ VENDORS
The BBQ competitors may also apply to be a vendor and sell their goods at the festival. The number of food vendors is limited to four, depending on when the application was received. If your food vendor application is accepted you may also sell the meats you use to compete in our main KCBS event (chicken, pork, pork ribs, or brisket). All participants at the event must comply with all regulations administered by the Dept. of Health and Consumer Services. To secure your spot, fill out and send in your food vendor's application.
